It's 1983. You're an Astros fan and you're READY. Then this drops. "Feel the heat from the hottest seats!"

Yogi Berra and Johnny Bench at the Astrodome in the final days of the 1989 season — the last days Berra would ever spend in a baseball uniform. Bench, two months removed from his induction at Cooperstown, was in Houston as a broadcaster, and the meeting brought together the two men who defined catching in their generations: the record holder, and the man who had broken his record. The record changed hands on July 15, 1980, in Cincinnati, where Bench — tied with Berra at 313 home runs hit as a catcher — homered against Montreal to pass him. Berra, never one to waste a line, wired his congratulations: "I always thought that record would stand until it was broken." Bench finished with 389 home runs, 327 of them as a catcher, the most any catcher had ever hit when he retired in 1983; he won two National League MVP awards, ten straight Gold Gloves and two World Series with the Big Red Machine, and on January 9, 1989, he was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year on the ballot with 96.4 percent of the vote. Berra's road to Houston had begun in humiliation: promised by George Steinbrenner that he would manage the Yankees all through 1985, he was fired 16 games into the season, with Steinbrenner sending Clyde King to deliver the news, and he did not set foot in Yankee Stadium again for 14 years. His friend John McMullen, the Astros' owner, brought him to Houston, where he coached under Hal Lanier and then Art Howe and spent his final seasons mentoring a young Houston catcher named Craig Biggio. As a player, Berra won three American League MVP awards and a record 10 World Series titles — 13 championship rings in all, counting his coaching titles with the 1969 Mets and the 1977 and 1978 Yankees — and he managed pennant winners in both leagues, the 1964 Yankees and the 1973 Mets. The Astros played their final home game of 1989 on September 27, losing 5-4 to Atlanta, and closed the season on October 1 with a 2-0 win at Cincinnati. With that, at 64, Berra's run of 44 straight seasons in a major league uniform — as player, manager and coach, from 1946 through 1989 — came to an end. ⚾ Berra or Bench — who is the greatest catcher of all time? 👇️

Milton Friedman, Nobel Prize-winning economist, once went through the major U.S. government departments and said which ones should stay and which should go: • Department of Agriculture: Abolish • Department of Commerce: Abolish • Department of Defense: Keep • Department of Education: Abolish • Department of Energy: Abolish (move the nuclear/military piece under Defense) • Department of Health and Human Services: Cut in half (limited public health role only) • Department of Housing and Urban Development: Abolish • Department of the Interior: Sell off most government land, and abolish • Department of Justice: Keep • Department of Labor: Abolish • Department of State: Keep • Department of Transportation: Abolish • Department of Treasury: Keep (to collect taxes) • Department of Veterans Affairs: Pay veterans off, and abolish Result: roughly 14 departments down to about 4–5. Government’s real jobs, he said: defend the country, keep the peace, and protect people from being coerced by others. Everything else is outside its proper role.

Dude. Elon Musk is on another planet.

One paragraph from C. S. Lewis can change your life

Oregon State researchers built a crystal that produces hydrogen from water using only sunlight. No platinum. No iridium. No expensive metal catalyst. The material, BVR-19, a metal-organic framework, absorbs light through its sulfur bonds. When light hits it, a bond breaks. That energy drives the reaction that splits water. It also forms spontaneously in a water-based solution at room temperature. Most hydrogen production today relies on fossil fuels or rare metals. This opens a route to solar hydrogen that doesn't depend on either. Oregon State University. Journal of the American Chemical Society, Oct 10 2026.

Pedro Martinez has explained that he watched a hitter's bat waggle because it could give away where the hitter wanted the ball. That's such a Pedro detail. He wasn't only leaning on scouting reports or generic heat maps. He was reading the person standing in front of him and looking for a tiny physical clue he could use on the very next pitch. t.co/FPLhp21xO3

If you skipped watching a MNF game because you saw the Bears starting quarterback wasn’t playing you made the most common mistake……. Because you missed a “where were you?” NFL game and moment where a 40 year old made a city believe 😂

🚨 MILTON FRIEDMAN (1978): Young lawyer asked Milton about when it is okay for a Govt to force a free citizen to act. Did you get the nuance in Milton's question about the difference between "society" and "govt"... Do you think a man should be free to sin?

Omar Vizquel's still so slick with it

I am officially making the offer of my services to any cucked Western nation to act as your crime deterrent. If migrants are raping/abusing your kids, I will scalp them in full Comanche ceremonal garb on live television. I'll be the bad guy. Crime guaranteed to plummet.

Jose Altuve enters the Wild Card series knocking on the door of history. His 27 postseason home runs rank 2nd-most in MLB history: Manny Ramírez: 29 HR José Altuve: 27 HR Nobody else in MLB history has more than 23
