Update - had dinner with my nephew last night: - forgave old debt - declined to lend/give more - discussed managing money. I don't think he learned much, but he may remember when he's ready. Bonus: maybe he'll reach out for something other than cash when he needs a hand. Heading home. Amtrak is relaxing.

My great grandfather (a cool guy) kept his Model T running until the early 1960s. I rode to church in it a couple times. I probably mostly chewed on the seats, but I've seen the pictures. The first Model T rolled off the Detroit assembly line on this date, 27 September, 1908, affordable transportation for ordinary people.

We treat Asimov's Laws of Robotics as a starting point for AI/Robot safety - risky when the Good Doctor used their bugs as plot devices. The First Law never defines "harm". The Second Law never says whose orders. The Third Law assumes a robot will let you turn it off. The later Zeroth Law puts abstract humanity above individual people. What one change should we make, whether adding, deleting, or rewriting, for the most leverage? Why?

Going for my favorite bad movie break - Hudson Hawk (1991). Rotten Tomatoes gives it one star⭐️, 23%. Real people like it more. The actors (especially Bruce Willis and Andie MacDowell) do an amazing job with a marginal script, delivering the best bad entertainment around.

My nephew just asked to borrow $3,500 for a car repair. Three years ago, my brother (his father) passed away. My nephew couldn't afford to fly to the funeral, so I loaned him money for that, for the hotel and for living expenses because he missed work. $5,000 total. He promised to pay it back as soon as he got his inheritance. When that came through, he (rudely) told me I'd never see the money. This is the first he's contacted me since then. Anyone think my natural response is a mistake?
