There is a certain level of power and authority you hold in a country that imposes on you the need to properly weigh the implications of your statements before you put them out. At that level, you cannot make strong assertions based on hearsay or single stories. The NCAA is way more efficient than given credit, and this is the reason why planes are not falling from the skies in this country, compared to more advanced countries. It is a tad too sad that we do not appreciate our own despite the fact that we are the most robust on the continent in terms of safety and consumer protection regulations. Some of these statements discourage people from putting in their best because they know that their efforts will be spat on and ridiculed. So long as you have power, legal authority, and information, you can investigate properly before saying certain things. That way, your conscience knows that due diligence was exhausted before you spoke.

Dear @KenyaAirways, if Ms Gloria Ibukun Omisore is not airlifted safely to her final destination within a couple of hours, there will be ramifications. There are limits that must not be crossed and, in 2025, you will treat Nigerian passengers better.

My flight from PH to Abuja on November 10th 2024 by @ArikAir was cancelled. I never got a refund for months even after their '40 working days' had passed until I reached out to @mikeachimugu01 and his team. I got my refund today! Kudos and thanks to you Mike and @nestaseyi

You guys need to work on your website. Indicate to people that your Lagos to Manchester route requires a Schengen visa. It’s not that hard. I’ve been in this unfortunate situation before with @KenyaAirways and I’ve vowed never to travel with you guys again. Please do better.

Also, tell your staff, at no point should you tell a passenger; 'call your president.' It's arrogance that must never be tolerated.

UPDATE: KENYA AIRWAYS MEETS WITH THE NCAA, APOLOGIZES FOR ILL-TREATMENT OF NIGERIAN PASSENGER AND ADMITS THAT AIRLINE'S OFFICIAL STATEMENT WAS MISLEADING As Director for Consumer Protection and Public Affairs at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, my duty is to protect all stakeholders, including passengers and airlines. I have carried out my duties with utmost respect to the regulations of the CAA. In respect of the now viral case between a Nigerian passenger, Gloria Omisore, and Kenyan Airways, I summoned the airline to my Abuja office today, Tuesday, February 4, 2025. In attendance were the airline's Country Manager, James Nganga; Station Manager, Eric Mukira; and Duty Manager, Ezenwa Ehumadu. The outcome of the meeting is as follows: 1. We informed the airline that the passenger had called Kenya Airways via +254 711 024 747 on December 7, 2025, to inquire if she was qualified to fly the Manchester-Paris-Nairobi-Lagos (inbound) and Lagos-Nairobi-Paris-Manchester route. According to the passenger, the airline told her that she was qualified, despite her informing them that she is Nigerian, who holds a British resident permit, but no Shenghen visa. 2. It was based on this information from Kenya Airways that she proceeded to purchase the ticket. She flew the first leg into Nigeria via Paris and Nairobi with no incidence. *The airline has asked for time to check their recorded call log and confirm if that call actually happened. They have been granted 48 hours to do so. For her outbound flight, the airline boarded and flew the passenger out of Lagos despite knowing that she needed a transit visa for the Paris leg. This fault was that of the airline, and it was only discovered in Nairobi. 3. Upon discovery, the airline then offered Ms Gloria a direct flight to London at no extra cost to her, on the condition that she'd wait another 10 hours in addition to the 17-hour layover she had just endured. Since she was bleeding and exhausted, the passenger demanded accommodation and care because the error was that of the airline. It was when she was denied care that an argument ensued between her and the airline counter staff. *This is contrary to the intentionally misleading official statement by Kenya Airways claiming that the lady simply refused to re-routing directly to London and started to throw pads around. *Their team has apologized for the obfuscation of facts in that statement. They have also admitted that, phone call or not, it was the fault of the airline not to have discovered the problem before airlifting the passenger from Lagos. 4. At the NCAA, our regulations mandate all airlines operating in Nigeria to have dedicated customer relations desks/officers who are trained to mediate issues of this nature. If there was compliance with the regulations, the staff would have handled the situation better, and it would never have escalated to the level it did. 5. "CALL YOUR PRESIDENT" I expressed deep disappointment about the unruly Kenya Airways staff who insulted the office of the President of Nigeria, insinuating that the airline could do anything to Nigerians and NOTHING would happen. I asked if this manner of addressing customer complaints was the airline's standard protocol. The country manager stated in very clear terms that the staff was out of order and apologized for the outburst. When asked what disciplinary measures will be taken against their personnel, he said that his bosses in Nairobi would decide. (Thread continues below)

FINAL UPDATE ON KENYAN AIRWAYS/GLORIA OMISORE/OTHERS The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority is initiating maximum enforcement action against @KenyaAirways for a large number of consumer protection infractions. Frame 1: @KenyaAirways Country Manager in Nigeria apologized for the Gloria Omisore incident. Frame 2: The airline admits that they should never have boarded the passenger from Lagos. The airline failed to discover the lack of a France transit visa and flew this passenger to Nairobi where she had a 17-hour layover, only to be told that she would have to endure a further 10-hour wait if she must be flown to the UK. Passenger then asks to be provided care for that 10-hour period as she is bleeding and needs to bathe. The actions of the airline staff following her request were down to poor passenger handling. Gloria Omisore was not an unruly passenger on the first leg of the flight, nor was she rude on the Lagos-Nairobi flight. Frame 3: We put the facts of the matter to the airline and rejected the misleading official statement put out by them. The determination was for the airline to update its initial statement to reflect the facts of the case. There has been no compliance. Rather, the original statement that obfuscated facts, in all of its royal 'misleading-ness', has been allowed to grow wings and fly. Take the blog post by one Charles Onyango-Obbo for instance. The writer still asserts that Gloria Omisore blatantly refused the offer to fly to London. This lie is being told despite the admission of Kenya Airways Country Manager in Nigeria, James Nganga, that the passenger only became frustrated when the 10-hour wait attached to that offer did not come with accommodation. This was a bleeding woman who had already experienced the inconvenience of a 17-hour layover. She needed to clean up, possibly have a bathe. If the airline was not going to provide the care, its staff could have handled the matter professionally. In the viral video, the airline's staff could be heard hurling insults and raising her voice in response to the infuriated passenger. James Nganga admitted in one of the videos below, that the staff's behaviour was against airline policy. The writer also claimed that the meeting between my team and the ailine held in Lagos. Simple research would have told him that the NCAA HQ is in Abuja. This is what happens when people are more interested in narrative-creation rather than facts. They know their audience. Frame 4. "Truth shouldn't be hard to tell." The NCAA gave the airline an opportunity to fix what was wrong. The airline has failed to do so. Earlier yesterday, the airline asked for an extension of one hour, after which they still failed to comply with the determination of the CAA. On Thursday, in a separate issue, the airline failed to send in a compliance report about a scheduled flight that was delayed for 7 hours with no compensation for the passengers. When confronted over a phone call, the Kenya Airways team claimed ignorance of the NCAA Regulations. We are sending them a copy of it. But, how can you operate in a foreign country with no recourse to the relevant regulations? How is this different from those who claimed that Omisore should have known the travel documents she needed for her trip? To this end, we are organising a retreat for ALL airlines operating in Nigeria to learn and relearn Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023. One would expect that knowledge of all necessary regulations is essential. Added to the other long-ignored cases read out to the KQ team that attended the meeting, the CAA is dismayed by the actions of this airline. Cases of refunds not paid, lost baggage not compensated for despite admitting to losing them, and failure to honour commitments. The NCAA is, therefore, initiating stiff enforcement action against Kenya Airways. This action will go through due process. I have put our legal department on notice.

Anybody can stop using any airline. The essence of sanctions is not to punish but to ensure compliance with the regulations that ensure the safety of and better travel experiences for passengers. @KenyaAirways operates 10 weekly flights into Lagos. Some days, they have two flights. You may wish to do the math. Nigeria has a great relationship with Kenya. The NCAA Consumer Protection Department also protects Kenya Airways where necessary. There are reports against the airline that we shut down on their merit, in accordance with the regulations. We will do our job without prejudice. This is not banter. You don't see me responding to the thousands of insults hurled at me by Kenyans. I believe that they feel a need to show support for the airline, which is admirable. Still, we will do our job.

Kenyans still travel on other airlines. While the argument for a national carrier sounds strong, it does not have much to do with this case. A Nigerian national carrier will be expected to respect the regulations of Kenya if it operates there, same way as we expect that KQ abides with NCAA regulations.

While we appreciate this effort, we need same energy directed toward establishing a national airline. Kenya Airways serves a country smaller than ours, yet it thrives. If we had our own airline, many Nigerians would gladly patronize it, knowing they are protected by our own laws.

Arik air asked me to pay 77k to move my flight to the next day, it was a clear case of an over charge, Mr. Mike contacted Arik, and I paid the actual difference in cost of ticket in lieu of the over bloated figure🙏🙏🙏
