@robbytaku I agree. I'm an outsider to college. dropped out in 2 months. f-prereqs. College has taken the turn for tuition retention. Sell you the dream, you can't even fail. The 'possibility' of employment in your dream job is just around the corner.
@robbytaku TBH This is not just for game dev degrees but many many other degrees in universities that will not get you a job. Actually very few degrees now will get you jobs.
@robbytaku Relate to 8/20. Great grades, but never felt like I had much to show off after 4 years of school (graduated in ‘21). Trying to find solid projects from coursework to display on my portfolio while trying to be kind to myself for not having the bandwidth to do more on the side.
@robbytaku I love posts like this because it helps me be a better professor. Thanks!
@robbytaku Oooooof the bit about portfolios and anxious seniors rings so true-- my senior year, I asked for and looked for so much advice on curating my portfolio, and I never really felt like I got direction on where I should/could go or support to get there
@robbytaku Excellent thread robby fortnite! My two cents on it is, gamedev should be fellas that can code, art, music etc coming together to make fun software. Not people getting trained to make a game. I like making games bc it doesn’t matter, just have fun and be silly
