100,000 FANS WAITING — BUT NO BIGGER EMIRATES? 🔴⚪ Arsenal explored expanding its home to 70,000–80,000 seats before stepping away from a major redevelopment. Talks with Populous, the stadium’s original architects, considered additional tiers, changes to the stands and raising the roof. Earlier estimates suggested a bill of around £500 million or more. But construction costs were only part of the problem. Hemmed in by homes and railway lines, Emirates offers little room for expansion. Rebuilding the stadium could also disrupt valuable hospitality areas, reduce matchday income and potentially force Arsenal to play elsewhere during the works. The club’s focus has now shifted to gradual improvements, including hospitality, catering, safe standing and the matchday experience. For supporters hoping for thousands of extra tickets, that leaves a difficult question: is this the right decision? 🎥 From leaving Highbury to abandoning a bigger Emirates, watch the full story in our report on the StadiumDB YouTube channel! 🔗 youtu.be/glIxNJ32DZE?is…

NFL players voted it THE WORST place to play — then it hosted the World Cup final. 🏟️ And its story could have looked very different. The Jets wanted a stadium above Manhattan’s rail yards. When that project collapsed in 2005, they joined forces with the Giants in New Jersey instead. Manhattan’s failed dream helped shape the stadium the world eventually watched. Does MetLife deserve its terrible reputation?

FC Barcelona went to Nou Mestalla for help 🔵🔴 Camp Nou’s next huge construction challenge has Barça and Limak studying how Nou Mestalla’s roof is being built. The trick? Assemble a giant steel cable network near pitch level, then lift it using synchronised hydraulic jacks. Valencia’s roof covers roughly 41,000 m². Barcelona’s will cover around 48,000 m² — and its planned summer 2027 lift means another spell away from Camp Nou. Raising the cables is only the beginning: the roof covering comes next.

This Atletico Madrid’s stadium was supposed to host the OLYMPICS. 🤯 Madrid’s bids for 2012, 2016 and 2020 all failed, leaving La Peineta’s Olympic ambitions unfulfilled. Then came Atlético Madrid. In 2017, the club said goodbye to the legendary Vicente Calderón and moved into the spectacular Metropolitano, built around part of the old athletics stadium. Now, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano will host the 2027 Champions League final, with the 2030 World Cup also on its horizon as a proposed venue. Was leaving the Calderón worth it? 🔴⚪

🇦🇺 Brisbane’s planned 63,000-seat stadium at Victoria Park is moving towards construction for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. BESIX Watpac and John Holland are the sole finalist for the main building contract, with negotiations expected to conclude in early 2027. Earthworks are already underway. The venue will host athletics and ceremonies before becoming home to Australian rules football and cricket, with concerts accommodating up to 70,000 people. But protests over green space and cultural heritage continue. Can Brisbane deliver its Olympic centrepiece while winning over the people fighting for the park?

We have flying cars, but Nou Mestalla is still under construction 🇪🇸 Valencia’s future stadium is old enough to have its own history. After almost sixteen years without construction, Nou Mestalla is preparing for football. But first comes a spectacular roof operation. In our new YouTube video, we follow the construction progress, the remaining work and the stadium Valencia supporters have waited so long for. ▶️ Full story on StadiumDB YouTube channel.

🇪🇸 From its 1947 opening to Real Madrid’s spectacular stadium renovation, Santiago Bernabéu keeps rewriting football history. A retractable roof, 360-degree LED screen and retractable pitch stored underground have transformed Madrid’s iconic arena. Florentino Pérez’s vision includes concerts, NFL games and entertainment beyond La Liga and Champions League nights. But ambitious plans brought construction challenges and noise complaints that disrupted concerts.

2042 World Cup in Germany and Poland? 🇩🇪🇵🇱 In 2042, European countries will be eligible to bid for the World Cup under FIFA’s continental rotation system. But which pair of countries could host the tournament, given that at least fourteen high-capacity stadiums are needed? In our latest YouTube video, we explore Germany and Poland as potential co-hosts, with the final in Warsaw. Why Warsaw? Because it is the only city in either country where expanding a stadium to eighty thousand seats is being seriously considered. And that is the minimum capacity required for a World Cup final ⬇️ 🔗 youtu.be/RIvzSWAgSqM?is…

Cleveland’s new Huntington Bank Field has to fit beside an international airport. ✈️ The solution? Dig down around 24 metres. The Browns say 70% of the seats will sit below ground level, keeping the roof beneath aviation height limits. Crews must move nearly two million cubic yards of earth to make room for the 67,500-seat enclosed stadium, targeting the 2029 NFL season. Would you rather watch the Browns underground or brave another Cleveland winter?

Camp Nou’s GIANT CREST takes shape as third-tier seats go in 🔵🔴 More seats are being installed in Spotify Camp Nou’s new third tier, with sections on the Lateral stand already revealing the outline of Barça’s future giant crest. The finished design will extend across the seating tiers, replacing the current pattern in the central sections below. Some lower-tier seats will be relocated elsewhere in the upper tier to complete the transformation. The main stand will display “Més que un club”, while Spotify’s logos will remain behind both goals. There is still a major construction programme ahead. The Lateral VIP boxes are targeted to open in March 2027, while the third tier is expected to remain closed throughout this season. The roof lift is planned for summer 2027, requiring another temporary move to Montjuïc while installation takes place. Full completion of the roughly 105,000-seat stadium is currently targeted for summer 2028.

Hard to believe this used to be a dock. 🤯Here’s how Everton’s new home took shape, from the first day of work to matchday. 🔵🏟️

A rugby ball gatecrashed Brentford vs Liverpool from OUTSIDE the stadium. 🏉 This is what happens when rooftop terraces overlook a Premier League ground — and someone takes things too far. Brentford have contacted police.

🏟️ £1 BILLION extra for 5,000 more seats? Newcastle’s stadium dilemma goes much deeper. The Times reports two options: rebuild St James’ Park to around 60,000 seats for £500m, or build a new 65,000-seat home nearby for £1.5bn. Neither has been approved, and the club still hasn’t chosen. Keep the history or build for a bigger future? ⚫⚪👇

Welcome to hell… or welcome to the playlist? 🔊🔥 Galatasaray faces accusations of pumping recorded whistles through the speakers. The stadium announcer denies it, and the allegations remain unproven. But if your legendary twelfth man needs an AUX cable, that’s stadium karaoke. 💀

⚪️🔴 A Monumental for 101,000 fans! River Plate is building another seating ring and a roof covering every stand. 🏗️ Crews are digging up to 30 metres underground for the foundations that will support the expansion, adding another 16,000 places. 📅 Completion is projected for 2029. River says no more than three home matches should need to move away during the entire construction programme.

🏟️ Barça will have to return to Montjuïc to install the roof at Camp Nou. The move is planned for the summer of twenty twenty-seven. Around eighteen thousand seats will need to be removed from the first two tiers, and the pitch will have to be replaced after the work. 📅 The return is planned for January twenty twenty-eight, with around ninety-two thousand seats available. Installation of the roof membrane can continue while matches are played, with the stadium expected to be fully completed for the following season. Will the next homecoming be the final one? 👀 🔗 youtu.be/TGrUH210EOg?is…

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium retractable pitch, NFL field and stadium transformation 🏟️ Spurs’ entire grass pitch splits into three sections and slides beneath the South Stand, revealing a separate artificial surface below. Around 25 minutes to move more than 10,000 tonnes out of sight. Here’s how one stadium switches between Premier League football, NFL games, boxing and concerts. #premierleague #nfl #stadium

MetLife’s sports complex has around 27,500 parking spaces. For plenty of fans, matchday starts somewhere among them, beside a grill, hours before kick-off. 🚗🏟️ Suburbs, highways and tailgating help explain those enormous parking lots around American stadiums. But Europe has a few surprises too: that broad pedestrian approach to Bayern’s Allianz Arena doubles as the roof of a multi-storey car park. #Stadiums #MetLifeStadium #AllianzArena

🔵🔴 PRESENT vs FUTURE: Camp Nou Camp Nou already welcomes more than 62,000 fans, but its transformation continues. The first seats are being installed in the third tier, while work progresses on the structure that will support the future roof. VIP areas are taking priority, while the opening of the third tier will have to wait. Installing the roof could force Barça to temporarily leave their stadium once again. How will this work, and what’s delaying construction? Find out in our new video on the StadiumDB YouTube channel ⬇️ 🔗 youtu.be/TGrUH210EOg?is…
