While I might be the first to connect my love of poker with AI, I’m certainly not the first to connect the dots about AI’s impact on Black communities. Big shout-out to organizations and people like @black_in_ai, @AJLUnited, @CummingsRenee, and others who are doing this important work. In my latest essay for @ChiDefender (chicagodefender.com/responsible-ai…), I add my perspective to the conversation about why responsible AI development requires Black people to have a seat at the table. If we're going to do AI right, maybe AI should also mean ALL-IN: all-in on safety, opportunity, equity and inclusion. #ArtificialIntelligence #ResponsibleAI #BlackInAI #AIEquity #TechEquity

“Michael” Isn’t About the Facts. It’s About the Feeling. Many critics are tough on the film. But audiences don’t care — and that’s kinda the point. medium.com/@timkingone/mi…

The work @RichardERoeper has done at the @Suntimes over all these years has been incredible and Chicago is better for it. Many people think of him as a “just” a film critic, but he has also authored countless books, written weekly columns about the everyday person, provided commentary in national publications, hosted TV shows and supported community organizations. I can’t wait to see what’s next as he continues adding to an already brilliant career!!

After more than 37 years at the Chicago Sun-Times, I have decided to accept a buyout. My last day will be this Friday. It's been a great privilege--but I am moving forward. I have no intention of stopping or even slowing down. Cheers. docs.google.com/document/d/10H…

@RichardERoeper THIS!!! 👍🏽 👍🏽 The fact of the matter is, the fires may still be burning by the scheduled ceremony date. They should announce 1) everything is on hold until the fires are contained and 2) the ceremony will be a fundraiser to rebuild LA.

I’m hearing there will be action taken on CEO Martinez at today’s ⁦@ChiPubSchools⁩ Board special meeting. Will the outcry described in this excellent @chicagotribune⁩ ed actually follow? “Brandon Johnson mocks Chicago voters with CPS power play” chicagotribune.com/2024/11/14/edi…

We've all heard how this presidential election is “the most consequential.” But here in Chicago, our votes will have the biggest impact in the historic @ChiPubSchools Board Elections. CPS has been rocked by scandal, budget crises, and leadership drama. It’s time to step up & be the superheroes to save our schools. For the first time, we can elect the CPS Board and make our voices heard. I delve more deeply in this topic @medium: link.medium.com/ZhJyOH8beOb. Let’s vote for change together Chicago! #Chicago #2024Elections #Vote

The Board’s abrupt resignation puts CPS in a worse position at a bad time. There is no excuse for it. The fact that they are completely silent takes the act from irresponsible to cowardly. We haven’t even had a public statement from them announcing that they were resigning do we? As for the new Board, at the very least they should’ve attended the City Council Education meeting. Even if they’re not “officially” on the Board, they are the Board appointees/designates. Someone has to step-up, lead and take responsibility. If the old Board has gone and the new Board hasn’t been seated, then that means there is currently no Chicago Board of Education. Is that even legal?

Soooo are we not going to talk about how none of the new CPS Board members showed up to the City Council’s Education meeting, CPS canceled the monthly Board agenda meeting, AND the October CPS Board of Ed meeting has been postponed. until further notice? This is all really concerning. x.com/chipubschools/…

A Letter to Rafael Wordlaw, My Murdered Former Student Dear Mr. Wordlaw, You did good. We must do better. A key tenet of the Urban Prep Creed is “We have a responsibility to our family, community, and world.” I remember when you first walked through the doors of Urban Prep in 2006; your dedication, commitment, and focus were evident. From graduating high school, to earning a college degree, to working at Urban Prep, to becoming a Deputy Sheriff, you understood the assignment and the part you had to play in its completion. As a city, we should have done more to keep you, and your twenty-one Urban Prep brothers who’ve lost their lives to gun violence, from harm. As a city, we should elect leaders who—like you—protect life, enforce laws to keep guns and criminals off the street, help people in crisis, and ensure that neighborhoods are safe. As a city, we should not tolerate even a single incident of gun violence, let alone the more than 1,800 shootings that have occurred in Chicago so far this year. Your life was taken by the sixty-nine shots fired at you, but the good you’ve done and the lives you’ve changed endure. Your spirit is bulletproof. In your honor, I recommit to fighting for the changes needed to prevent such senseless acts. I hope others will join me. We owe at least that much to you and to all those whose lives have been destroyed by violence. Thank you for giving us so much of you for 31 brief years. You deserved more time with us and more from us. You did good. And because of that, we will do better. Rest in Peace. We Believe, Mr. King

Mr. Wordlaw was an unforgettable member of @UrbanPrep’s first graduating class and was among the first alumni to work full-time at Urban Prep after he earned his college degree. He continued giving back to his community with @CookSheriffIL @TomDart. His murder is beyond tragic. Rest in Heaven Mr. Wordlaw. #WeBelieve fox32chicago.com/news/chicago-g…
