The email request was utterly trivial, as the standard for passing the test was to type some words and press send! Yet so many failed even that inane test, urged on in some cases by their managers. Have you ever witnessed such INCOMPETENCE and CONTEMPT for how YOUR TAXES are being spent? Makes old Twitter look good. Didn’t think that was possible.

I already had a low opinion of many federal workers but now that I’ve seen them all meltdown and cry because they’re expected to provide the faintest evidence that they’re actually accomplishing anything with the taxpayer funded job we’ve given them, I realize that my opinion of

Agree 100%. Science supports this. Mental health (incl. motivation) is best layered with dopamine reward schedules of varying duration.

Dopamine from information gathering is a dangerous drug. Your entire life will change the moment you stop looking for more information and start acting on the information you already have. Get your dopamine from action.

Walter Isaacson: Those who don't want Elon Musk to control so many industries should learn to get stuff done too. “Why is Elon successful at some of these things, like getting 5,000 satellites up? He said we used to be a nation of really great risk-takers. Even the people who ran Boeing probably were risk-takers at one point. Not safety risks, but they were going to try rockets. He said everybody who came here, whether it was on the Mayflower or across the Rio Grande, they were adventurous, they took risks. He says nowadays we have more referees than we have risk-takers. We have more regulators than we have innovators. We have more people saying you can't do it, the lawyers, the whatever. He said it's made it so that our big military contractors can't get anything done. We can't get high-speed rail. I would think that the best way to make sure he doesn't have so much clout on things is for somebody to be able to build more electric vehicles. He built a charging network and then the US Government, Ford, GM, decided to build their own, and they've surrendered because the Tesla charging network works. I'm not trying to just sing his praises, but it would be useful if you don't want him to control the charging network in America, if you don't want him to control the Internet in outer space, if you don't want him to control rocket launches, to have Boeing and Northrop Grumman and others be able to get stuff done.” The 92nd Street Y, October 13, 2023

NYC has a considerably lower crime rate than most large American cities. It's also a city of 8+ million where lots of crazy shit happens on a daily basis. I don't blame anyone for being concerned but it's sort of a test for whether you think in terms of narratives or base rates.

1/ On How Short Life Is A few years ago, I was walking around in a blizzard in SoHo (New York). It was late, midnight, and it was beautiful. Some friends, about 15 blocks away, called: "come over?" It was late, it was cold, was tired, thought "maybe not worth it" but then...

God works in mysterious ways. It's quite possible that the best thing that has happened to America in decades was Biden stealing the 2020 election. Had Donald Trump won in 2020, he would have suffered an ineffective, COVID-plagued second term full of impeachments and "resistance," and America would not have fully seen the lies, perfidy and treachery of the Democrat/Media Complex. Instead we had four years of a Biden administration where all of the evil in The Blob was laid bare for all to see. We learned how to stop the election cheating that Democrats have engaged in at least since the 1960 election. Over those four years Trump was able to put together a plan for a renewed Presidency, this time with the right people like JD, Vivek, Tulsi, Elon and RFK instead of the Deep State stooges he trusted last time. We are about to embark on an American revival that literally could not have happened had Trump won in 2020.

Elon’s purchase of Twitter was the single most consequential act of the last decade. It restored free speech, broke the Overton window, and enabled the second American revolution.
