the song lover is a LOVE SONG. it isn’t ABOUT denial, Taylor just feels like she was probably IN denial when she wrote it. Swifties who aren’t good at literary analysis shouldn’t be gaslighting everyone else into believing their bs

people can interpret lyrics however they want. like if you want to think it’s about denial and it reminds you of that, be my guest. i’m just saying that (from the perspective of an english lit teacher) that isn’t the literal interpretation of any of it
@13alltooswiftie Hi! I'm an editor at TODAY.com writing about Lover and its legacy — would love to ask you a few questions!
@13alltooswiftie I interpreted her adding it to the denial playlist, as her memories of the good times she had with yb keeping her in denial about how bad things had gotten. Like the memories of how good the relationship was when she wrote lover we’re keeping her in denial of how bad things were
@13alltooswiftie Just want to add that there are so many anxious songs on the lover album it makes a lot of sense for her to feel this was her denial stage! Afterglow is such a perfect example of that
@13alltooswiftie I disagree. You can’t tell a songwriter what her song is about after she basically tells you more or less. It’s not lit analysis it’s rude af.
@13alltooswiftie Also an English lit teacher, and I agree
