'You lost me when you said your problem with Putin is he's not using nuclear weapons... you're one screw loose from a full tool kit!' Konstantin Malofeev claims Piers Morgan has "disappointed him" during a fiery debate on Ukraine-Russia. 📺 youtu.be/mqgDp6If16s @piersmorgan

Donald Trump is "exacerbating and prolonging" the war in Ukraine, according to his former Russia adviser Fiona Hill. She tells Sky's @haynesdeborah that Trump's approach is undermining Ukraine and giving Vladimir Putin reason to believe he can change the course of the conflict.

“Trump being king of his own jungle isn’t enough. “He looks at Putin, and thinks he’s got everything - ‘I want to be an autocrat, I want to have control over my country, I want to have the longevity you have.” Is Trump channelling The Jungle Book in his obsession with Putin?

“That is the language of child abusers, frankly.” The shocking footage unveiled in ITV News’ undercover investigation into Reform that made @maitlis “flesh crawl”…

Once again, Reform are trying to distract from their sleaze and scandal with another disgraceful (and illegal) announcement. Allegedly breaking election law, not declaring a £5 million ‘gift’, getting £72 million from two crypto billionaires. It’s clear who’s side Reform are on

Reform have really screwed up with the Machine Gun Them In The Water strategy. Even Zia Yusuf is having to walk this one back now.

Eh. I would love to know what the vision is. Within 2 years entire Home Sqn of OPVs will cease to exist as RIVER Batch 1s are removed from service and DiP had nothing to say about how that enormous hole in At Sea Days for presence, for training etc is to be dealt with...

At the end of the 90s, before the devastating cuts of the 2000s, the British Army SHORAD allocation with the then new STARSTREAK HVM called for 1 regiment for each Division (12 RA with 1XX, 47 RA with 3XX). Each regiment had 3 batteries, 1 per brigade. Each Battery had 3 Troops, one per Battlegroup. Each troop had 12 Fire Units. Each Fire unit had 20 missiles (a Stormer has 8 ready to fire, 12 stored) in Self Propelled batteries; 10 in LML batteries. Each Division also had a RAPIER regiment, with 1 Bty per Brigade, 8 Fire Units per each battery. THAT was the kind of density of air defence when air attacks where to be expected anywhere on the battlefield. Now the threat is back to being THAT pervasive, and indeed more, with drones opening up precision strikes at a lower tactical level still. I do not see how the Army can continue to escape the truth that Air Defence must return to be THAT dense. With indeed a new, even more pervasive lower layer added via EW and RWS with suitable C-UAS capability on many of the frontline, non-air defence vehicles. At present, the ENTIRE ARMY has no more than 38 Stormer HVM left in service, plus 12 (?) LML. That's enough coverage, with 1999 metrics, for 4 battlegroups. Not brigades, not divisions. BGs. BGs that at the time would be spread over less ground than they would be now under new concepts of employments, by the way. And it can field only a couple of SKY SABRE batteries. It should not be remotely controversial to say that a huge priority should be attached to rebuilding air defences so each Brigade has its own Bty aligned. Each Division should have its own SKY SABRE regiment, too. This should be the minimum starting point for any discussion. I don't think it's even debatable.

The russian plan to encircle Donbas is completely fucked. Ukrainians sent waves of ground drones into their positions and blew them all up. Totally ingenious

I cringe at the word “Dome” (and any catchy title that precedes it). £10Bn doesn’t buy you much and certainly won’t guarantee 100% protection from every threat, everywhere. The UK (11 x bigger than Israel) plus at least 4 critical overseas territories, needs a layered system. 1/6

The system, not the soldier Something a bit different from me. As always views my own, corrections and comments welcome. 1/25 The British Armed Forces ask people to accept unusual risk, unusual discipline and unusual closeness of living. In return they are entitled to expect that the institution will not itself become a source of harm — and that when harm occurs it will be investigated with independence, not managed as a reputational problem. That bargain has been broken, repeatedly. Official statistics, parliamentary inquiries, service inquiries, inquests, courts martial and investigative journalism describe a pattern that is no longer a run of “isolated incidents”: serious sexual assault and bullying at scale; senior ranks frequently implicated; complainants delayed, discouraged and isolated; and an MoD that has preferred incremental reform inside the chain of command to the bolder step of putting investigation of the gravest crimes outside it. Ministers and chiefs now condemn this in strong language. The question is not whether they can speak the values. It is why an institution that speaks so fluently about values has found it so hard to put the victim, rather than the coherence of “the system”, at the centre of its response. This thread attempts to set out the evidence.

So much of the right these days just have a massive patriotism problem. This guy: - is a tax exile (left long before this govt) - hates his own country while complaining he doesn’t get big enough subsidies from it - laments the hit to manufacturing driven by a Brexit he supported
