This was from the NBC Game if the Week. We were on that a lot that year!
@19fredlynn That’s correct, Fred. Monday Night Baseball. Early August’75 game against Aaron’s Brewers. Fisk went 4-for-4 including the walkoff. I was at that game. Bleacher crowd chanted ‘We’re number 1!’ After the win.
@19fredlynn Was Jim as strong as they said?
Here’s a story for you, Fred. You three guys were the outfielders on my very first trip to Fenway. It must have been 1977. I was 3. Rice was the only player whose name I knew. But you got at least one hit, and I learned your name that day. And it was clear - clear as day - that Yaz was the best player on the field. In the late innings, Yaz chased toward a ball that was hit toward the Monster and he slammed into the scoreboard at full speed. He had to come off the field. The play was on every highlight reel when he retired. Years later, someone told me that it was his final game in left field, and that he became the DH after that. I don’t know if that’s true, but I’ll never, ever forget that day. It was the day my dad took me to Fenway for the first time. Thanks for the memory, Fred!
@19fredlynn Freddie, you guys were the best. Thank you!
Never a BoSox fan ( Cardinals rule!) but my respect was immense. I love the city of Boston . My fave city in the US. PLUS am a die hard Bruins fan since a kid. OK. Fisk behind the plate.. Boomer at first. Denny at 2nd. Drago in the bullpen. Rooster at short. Rico?? At 3rd When you don’t like a team and can remember their line up… THAT IS RESPECT.
@19fredlynn It was always so cool when the Sox were on the game of the week or when they were featured on This Week in Baseball. That theme music still makes me happy.
@19fredlynn I can't believe i recognize Pete Rose. I've never really followed sports, but i sure remember the base ball cards (bubble gum that cut your cheek..) and the Pete Rose baseball bat i had.
