Umar ibn al-Khattab رضي الله عنه said: "Whoever laughs excessively loses his dignity; whoever jokes excessively is taken lightly; whoever speaks excessively makes many mistakes." [روضة العقلاء ونزهة الفضلاء، لابن حبان]
There is a funny paradox where an old woman full of warmth always seems very young and cute as if she were still a girl - the very opposite of a witch - because despite her advanced age, she never lost her girlishness. An old woman with soft girlishness, a sharp glint in her eyes and a warm heart is the woman who has truly won at life. When you can talk to her and even with her wisdom you can easily imagine the child or teenage version of her due to how expressive and kind she is - that's a very strong and beautiful soul. Most old people are bitter and cynical, because the weak are the majority and the majority drown in the misery that robs their spark and incentivises their darkness. They let this life make them ugly. Most will see the girlish old woman as weaker than the more bitchy and abrasive ones, because they are fools - but how is what comes easier ever superior to what does not? It never is! They mistake dominance for superiority, rather than see it for what it really is: corruption due to weakness - they lack the proper discernment.

I consider the opinion of few men, I require the approval of none.
One of the hidden costs of being agreeable is that people rarely reveal their true capacity for disrespect. Say no occasionally. Disagree calmly. Protect your time. Minor resistance exposes people who only appeared pleasant because you had never yet obstructed what they wanted.
A woman cannot have virtue without courage, and to have courage she must be disagreeable, so actually then for a woman to be a good woman she cannot be a blind people pleaser, she must know when it is dangerous to conform, she must know how to say no.
You don’t become dangerous by learning more. You become dangerous by needing less. Less validation, less approval, less reassurance. The fewer emotional requirements you carry into interactions, the harder it becomes for others to control your behavior.

It is common for the fool to think the wise man is a fool, because wisdom sounds like nonsense to those who lack the discernment to recognise it, and so enter the absurd: the insolent and the ingrate lectures their better as if they know better when they know no better - hubris has become them.
A very simple thing that'll help you considerably in this life is to always ask yourself if the people you associate with bring out the best in you or not. If someone consistently inspires you to abandon your better nature, ceasing association with them is to honour your soul.
