According to Denis Villeneuve, "Incendies" (2010) has no historical value and was total fiction. He felt that he was not the right person to direct the movie. He said, “It was not really a good idea for a Canadian director to make a film about war in the Middle East. I know nothing about Arab culture. I mean, I know some things. But I was not an expert at all! And I know nothing about war. It was really what the play was saying about family that attracted me so much." Filming in Jordan, Villeneuve worried about the story’s violence. He wondered if the brutal scenes would be too raw for a crew that included Lebanese and Iraqis. “It was a huge responsibility to film those war scenes in front of people who had been in a war a few months ago. “But they said, ‘No, for us it’s the opposite. It’s important that those sorts of stories are on the screen." However, After a screening in Beirut, he said, "a lot of people said to me that we should show this film to their children, to show them what they had been through. They said, ‘We never talk about this part of our history. They teach history to the children up to 1975. After that, it’s a taboo era.’" ("‘Incendies’ filmmaker takes on war in a fictional, but very real, Middle East", Mark Jenkins, Washington Post, 2011) P.S: On this day, 16 years ago, "Incendies" (2010) premiered at the Venice Film Festival, Italy.

Absolutely incredible how Gaspar Noé pulled off that overhead shot in the intro, with cinematography by the great Benoît Debie. The camera work, the dancers' choreography, the music…CLIMAX was one hell of a trip 💙🤍❤️
THE VANISHING (1988) is terrifying without ever needing to show you much. Stanley Kubrick called it the scariest film he’d ever seen, and that ending is exactly why this movie stays in your head long after it’s over.
What is the most absolute scariest, terrifying film you’ve ever seen?

The fact that one of my favorite Spanish films gives us Liv Ullmann and Ornella Muti as vampires in a sacrilegious occult tale remains one of cinema’s great gifts.
