Like many here, I've been overjoyed with Eric Jacobus' and Stunt People's 4K re-release of Contour on Youtube. Remember watching this way back and becoming an instant fan, many great fights in the film but I think Law vs Lei takes the cake for me for sheer variety on display 🥋🔥

As a result "Boy Kills World" is an oddity, a scattershot of ideas and concepts that sound better on paper than they appear on-screen, with a game cast that gives it their all and a stunt team that elevates the film to the OTT nature it aims for, creative, uneven....... but fun.
The climactic showdown is genuinely one of the best fight scenes in general of the year, that's fantastic showcase for a performer known to be a legend in everything he's in and a great highlight for the other performers in the scene and the physical achievements they've made🔥👊
When "Boy Kills World" indulges in gory, creative martial arts mayhem, the film shines ! Every technical element from the surprisingly impactful foley work (courtesy of Georgian sound designers actually👀😮) to the cinematography and editing adding to the excitement.
The real highlight of the film is the action though and here director Moritz Mohr's Raimi-style camerawork with some creative and extensive use of drones in the fight sequences and action designer Dawid Szatarski's flavorful and varied choreography truly engage and thrill.
The wardrobe and costume department also deserves a special mention in my opinion, which is not something that I usually pay much attention to in genre fare these days, but each character wears a unique clothing signature that's able to communicate their personality and mood.
HOWEVER, the film does over time, successfully lull you into a false sense of security and tonal assurance that it violently betrays and unleashes a plot twist of such absurdity and honestly, ballsiness that the mere attempt alone I gotta commend, despite being.... questionable🤔
The biggest drawback of the film, that almost threatens to make the experience unbearable at times is H. Jon Benjamin's narration sadly, as someone who's not the biggest fan of his dry, sarcastic approach to voicework, here it takes an otherwise breezy tone to a screeching halt.
Andrew Koji and Isaiah Mustafa CARRY the film's comedic/emotional core. They are sadly the only ones who are able to sell the film's goofy, raunchy verbal humor with plenty of dynamic scenes between each-other and Skarsgård's Boy that makes good use of his lip-reading.
However Jessica Rothe, as an axe-wielding, LED-helmet wearing enforcer June 27, effortlessly fills that gap and is able to strike a badass, funny and at times heartfelt figure that's capable of matching Skarsgård "Boy" on a multitude of levels, great showcase of her talents.
Michelle Dockery and Famke Janssen fare a little less better, as the two lack the needed screen-time and narrative involvement to really make a lasting impact, beyond the background exposition given to them by other characters which fail to make them seem as an imposing threat.
The rest of the cast, namely the villains, the Van Der Koy family also deliver, with Sharlto Copley being his usual maniacal self chewing up the scenery along with Brett Gelman who I thought brought a degree of sincerity, these two are a fantastic duet, especially early on:
Bill Skarsgård gives a terrific physical performance here that at times recalls the best of silent era's heroes' comedy and gags with some creative use of mannerisms, movement and obviously his extremely toned body in fight sequences that have a unique animalistic flavor to them.
Can finally talk about "Boy Kills World". An enjoyable, silly over-the-top actioner with some genuinely stellar action design and camerawork harshly contrasted by hit or miss humor and tonal shifts that detract from some fun performances, ideas and genuinely brilliant fight work.
