Google's Harness2 framework lets an agent rewrite its prompts, tools and memory mid-task, while the model stays untouched. The surprise is in the paper's setup. The editor proposing every change runs on Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.8. Gemini 3.5 Flash is one of the models being improved. Odd look next to reports that Sergey Brin wants staff all in on Gemini. Does it matter whose model does the rewriting? Would you let an agent edit its own setup while it works?

MiniMax just revealed that Space Bunny, the anonymous model on OpenRouter, was an early version of its new M3.1 Flash. It handled more than 200 trillion tokens while nobody knew whose it was. Claude Opus 5.5 just beat a published human expert baseline on an AI training task, according to Vals AI. With 24 hours of compute, it trained a small language model from scratch and scored 0.8308 bits per byte. The human baseline was 0.85, and lower wins. Vals AI then moved its own forecast for full self-improvement to July 2027. Does one result like this move your timeline at all? Would you trust a model to run your training jobs yet?
