Breaking: The Austin City Council has voted to restart its guaranteed income program, approving a $1.3 million contract with a nonprofit to oversee the program. The move comes a week after TX AG Ken Paxton sued Harris County over a similar program: kut.org/austin/2024-04…
Austin will give $1,000 a month for a year to about 100 families. The city wrapped a pilot of this program last year. Some background on how that pilot went: kut.org/austin/2024-01…
@AKMcGlinchy @KenPaxtonTX won’t sue Austin. He sued Harris County because he hates Lina Hidalgo.
@AKMcGlinchy This is blatantly unconstitutional and a great disservice to the tax payers.
@AKMcGlinchy This is illegal in the state of Texas.
@AKMcGlinchy @scottbraddock These people have full blown hard ons for inflation
@AKMcGlinchy I look forward to some data on whether it was as helpful as I hope it is.
@AKMcGlinchy Did they set aside legal $ when Paxton sues? Understand benefit of program but if recipients can't achieve long term stability, the pilot program is a year of relief w/o sustainability.
@AKMcGlinchy Goin all in buying votes with our money
