New #NCAS data has found that 91% people think that violence against women is a problem but only 47% of people think that it's a problem in the suburb or town #domesticviolence #sexualviolence
@ANROWS @CEONTVorg @NTVorg It's the old adage of "othering" the problem. It's out there somewhere but not near my back yard! Educating Australia to learn to look and listen and consciously address the fact that violence is endemic and all around us is taking time 🙏
@ANROWS When you promote propaganda 24-7 that its a problem, people are going to think its a problem. Much the same as the "refugees in boats are all rapists" put on the front pages has an insidious effect on collective consciousness. What people assume doesn't equate reality.
@ANROWS While not surprising it is so, so disappointing after working in the sector since the mid 90’s. On an individual level we do well but at the societal level change is hampered by institutionalised patriarchy. All the system we need were made by and for men.
@ANROWS Fascinating research! A common pattern in attitudes towards violence - it's often happening somewhere else and not in my community/backyard!
