The Editor-in-Chief of the journal Science thinks undergrad science majors should be taught philosophy of science. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… Here at @uc_philosophy, we developed a course called How Science Works a decade ago...
This course satisfies @uofcincy's natural sciences and quantitative reasoning gen ed requirements. We couldn't find a book we liked for it, so I coauthored Recipes for Science with Matteo Colombo and Cory Wright.
@APotochnik @hughbarnard @uc_philosophy Most positions in academic philosophy of science would be controversial. Perhaps best descriptive approach concentrating on the practice of scientific disciplines would be better.
@APotochnik @uc_philosophy What are your experiences from that course? How big is it? What kind of fields/levels does it include/concern? How is it run? Does your book have an explicit role in there? (Should really get that book.)
@APotochnik @uc_philosophy Ironic that this man talks about the philosophy of science when he changed Science magazine from science to politics.
@APotochnik @uc_philosophy I've been teaching a "Scientific Thinking" module at the University of St Andrews for 20 years. The problem is no one regards it as core teaching though.
