Just randomly thinking about how Netflix gave Spike Lee a real budget and he made a fantastic jungle adventure dealing with the trauma of Vietnam through the eyes of Black soldiers. Delroy Lindo could have easily won an Oscar but didn’t even get a nom—even the poster rocks.
@AaronsPS4 I wouldn’t say Netflix totally gave him a real budget. The main reason he had the same actors playing their younger selves is because he knew he wouldn’t get the same kind of money Scorsese got on “The Irishman” to de-age them!
@AaronsPS4 Netflix doesn’t really campaign for Oscars like they should. They also have to put it in theaters for a certain time to qualify.
@AaronsPS4 far from fantastic. pretty forgettable actually.
@AaronsPS4 Did it get a theatrical release? If it didn't, then it wasn't eligible for academy awards.
@AaronsPS4 Yeah people were really critical of it when it came out for whatever reason , when I think it’s the best of spike lee’s later career. I love how it uses isolated tracks of songs off what’s going on throughout (cont.)
@AaronsPS4 Agree with every word. One of the best films that year and one of Spike's best films. Delroy was ROBBED.
