I worked in the big mainstream English media, predominantly Left liberal, for two decades and all along, we were told by many senior editors that Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was a “fascist” who jailed all her critics including journalists during the Emergency, wrecked economy with her License Raj and socialism, created Bhindranwale and Sikh separatism, so on and so forth. Today, it’s quite amusing to see the same bunch eulogizing Mrs. Gandhi for her leadership and her contributions in securing India’s national interests. Actually, it’s completely alright to give Indira ji credit where it is due just as it would be fair to appreciate the accomplishments of all other Prime Ministers of India too. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Narsimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi have had both their hits and misses. They deserve both accolades and brickbats for their victories and failures respectively. But that is not how the Left liberal intelligentsia sees it. They are so blinded by their indoctrination or ulterior agenda that they viciously go after a Prime Minister, almost raving mad in their bashing, and suspending all fair judgment and critical evaluation. What’s amusing is that time and limitations of human memory have a way to equalise everything. What was bad some decades ago is good today and what’s bad today will be good a few decades later.
@AartiTikoo Despite being a journalist, you give an impression that you were, and are, led by the narrative/opinion of others than by your own independent, unbiased and critical assessment. How often have you shown mirror to the ruling establishment, say in the last 2 years?
@AartiTikoo "They deserve both accolades and brickbats for their victories and failures respectively." ☝️that doesn't apply to Adolf Hitler & Pol Pot. Whatever their other accomplishments, perpetrators of #CrimesAgainstHumanity do not deserve any accolades. Period.
@AartiTikoo Not Nehru , never. Was he elected or selected? What he did to INA and other freedom fighters and their contributions , I'll never ever forgive him.
@AartiTikoo @TVMohandasPai Excesses of emergency , are not justifiable. But they are being repeated now in different hues 😆 owing allegiance to leftist ideology is not a sin 😑
@AartiTikoo Exactly. Every leader has their hits & misses - they deserve accolades and brickbats for their victories & failures.. Was thinking - both Indira Gandhi and Margaret Thatcher are very similar. Both had one war victory for which they were celebrated & on the rest mostly disasters!
@AartiTikoo Have you in your long professional career seen a PM accusing an Ex PM as a Pakistani agent ? Have you ever noticed usage of undignified language by any PM in public meetings?
@AartiTikoo She has to be given credit for the victory in 1971 war. However, had FM SHFJ not been firm with her,India could've lost the war had Indian Army launched the attack in East Bengal immediately, around May-June,per her wishes. The gains of that war were lost with the Simla agreement.
@AartiTikoo Gosh. You just described @sagarikaghose and her new found obsession against PM Modi
@AartiTikoo In other words, their approach is completely politicized, devoid of professionalism.
@AartiTikoo They r doing it out of frustration, but in that way they are exposing themselves and losing their credibility what ever they had among Indians .
