@PardonMyTake@ESPNBooger (7) Bottom line: height affects arm/finger-to-ground distance, but that does not translate 1:1 into club length. Golf setup is a geometry problem, and posture, shaft angle, and distance from the ball can compensate for substantial differences in height.
@PardonMyTake@ESPNBooger (1) Since 2017, I’ve yet to comment on any points of confusion hotly debated through MANY idiot jazz sessions on PMT. I’m not sure why, but after hearing that arm-length discussion, I can’t resist. Yikes. Love you guys. Can’t wait to see what helpful additions the internet offers
@PardonMyTake@ESPNBooger (6) A 6’ golfer and a 5’5” golfer can use the same-length irons and achieve the same setup by adjusting posture. The taller golfer bends more at the knees/hips; the shorter golfer a little less.
@PardonMyTake@ESPNBooger (5) If the heel and toe are flush with the turf, the club is an appropriate length. With the same club and similar knee/waist bend, the taller golfer will also stand closer to the ball because their hands are higher off the ground. The shorter golfer usually stands farther away.
@PardonMyTake@ESPNBooger (4) Two golfers 6” apart in height and address the ball with the same club. The taller golfer will naturally have a more upright shaft angle, while the shorter golfer will have a flatter one. What matters more than the exact angle is the club’s sole sitting properly on the ground
@PardonMyTake@ESPNBooger (3) With only 1–2” height difference, the distance may be similar, but not with a larger difference. Yes, recommended club length increases incrementally for taller players (> ~6’) but a standard men’s 7-iron works for heights 5’4”–6’ or so. Why? Setup geometry.
@PardonMyTake@ESPNBooger (2) Hank is somewhat right, meaning wrong. Shocker. I think I see where the misunderstanding lies. First, finger-to-ground distance increases with height. A 6’ person’s fingertips will be further from the ground than the 5’ person’s when standing upright, arms at their sides.
