The boxing legend Muhammad Ali on a ninth-floor fire escape in Los Angeles in 1981, as he successfully talked down a distressed young man threatening to jump. This iconic photograph was taken on January 19, 1981, in Los Angeles by Los Angeles Times photographer Boris Yaro.... For hours, police, a psychologist, and a minister tried and failed to convince the young man—who was in deep psychological distress and believed the Viet Cong were coming after him—to step back. Alerted by his friend and photographer Howard Bingham who was nearby, Ali rushed to the scene in his Rolls-Royce. Muhammad Ali talked a desperate man down from a ledge… “He said he couldn’t find a job, that he was depressed. He said his mother and father don’t love him, that nobody loves him. I told him I love him or I wouldn’t be there. He said, ‘Why do you worry about me? I’m nobody.’ I told him he wasn’t a nobody. I’m going to help him go to school, buy him some clothes. I’m going to go home with him to meet his mother and father. They called him a nobody, so I’m going home with him. I’ll walk the streets with him and they’ll see he’s big. He saw me weeping and he couldn’t believe I was really doing that, that I cared that much about him.” Muhammad Ali wasn’t only a champion inside the ring. Moments like this showed another side of the man behind the gloves. After roughly 20 minutes of conversation, the man was moved by Ali's sincerity, opened the fire escape door, and let Ali pull him inside to safety. Ali personally escorted the man in his car to the Sawtelle VA Hospital for psychiatric care, promising to check in on him and later offering to help buy him clothes and assist him with his future. #archaeohistories

@BigBadBraz That type of player comes at a high cost, unlike the workmanlike types, which we have in abundance. Carter comparing us with the likes of Wrexham was laughable...#cafc has a totally different fragmented setup. We don't even own our main assets.
