My students struggle with making connections to what they're reading. Could it be because they don't have much "background knowledge" at such young ages? How do you help your students make connections while reading?

Q3: I try to build relationships in class by writing the quickwrites I sign WITH the students and share my answers. I tell them about my thoughts and share stories from my days in school. I think they see me as a "real person" this way. #campusbadges #huntmiddlechat
Q2: I use Canvas to post notes, examples, and even teacher explanation videos as a resource for students at home. I hope to use videos in the future to continue instruction on days I have a sub. #campusbadges #huntmiddlechat
