Tao is worried that AI will produce drugs that hit metrics but don’t actually cure the underlying disease. Does that sound familiar? That’s (most of) modern medicine! Think about optimizing for 25(OH)D and LDL metrics. That’s how you get people taking Vitamin D supplements and statins, not realizing they’re targeting (mostly) symptoms and not root causes.

This is a slide from Terence Tao's 'Math 2.0' public lecture yesterday evening at Caltech. I am highly confident that, if the cure actually worked, almost any Stage 4 cancer patient would tell you that human comprehension of its mechanism is completely irrelevant to them.

@helios_brah @rfsafe It’s not just the frequency that’s problematic. It’s coming from the sky, so if you want to tan in the sun, there’s no way to shield from it. For cell towers at least you can hide behind a mountain or trees.

@taobanker Agreed. I've also noticed that as I get healthier, I have less frequent cravings for the dopamine rush from elaborate meals at fancy restaurants. High quality ingredients plainly cooked is very satisfying.

@SowingAlphaSeed I've had this exact model for half a year now. I put 4 caster wheels on it and push it inside and outside to work. Mount two monitors on it and put another 20-30 lbs on it regularly. No issues so far.

@seagertp @BlueLightDiet He’s primarily targeting SE/East Asians. Low mitochondrial uncoupling ability, but also expects high solar yield and magnetic pinning. When the stable magnetic field goes away, you get bad CISS spin polarization and not enough uncoupling ability to dissipate pmf as heat.
