Last week I did a story about a NS nurse who doesn't qualify for the full 10k retention bonus due to being on medical leave for cancer treatment. Since, I've had multiple nurses in similar situations reach out to me, saying it's not fair. Here is the Premier's response today.
@Alicia_Draus If a nurse is off on maternity leave they could actually have a case for legal action. You cannot penalize workers who are off on mat leave.
You should ask him the next time why they’re ignoring the science and haven’t hired back the unvaccinated nurses and all of the front line health care workers they wrongfully dismissed in 2021 over a so called vax that doesn’t prevent infection or transmission. And repeat that question over and over because it’s appalling how the majority of the other provinces have lifted the mandate while backwards Nova Scotia continues to hold out while our feeble health care system continues to fail. Thanks in advance.
@Alicia_Draus And no bonus for casual nurses who stepped up to fill gaps. Many came out of retirement to do their part.
@Alicia_Draus Once again, the government's motto seems to be, "Don't get sick in Nova Scotia."
@Alicia_Draus They can get the bonus when they return to work.
@Alicia_Draus There’s always going to be an exception, on the bright side, if there is one….nurses have really good health benefits and are compensated when they’re off with an illness? 🤷♂️
@Alicia_Draus Sounds like a liberal thing.. Despicable....
