My dad mol£sted Me All Through My Childhood While My Family Protected His Image — Rapper Ms Jorji
Rapper Ms Jorji has recounted how her father s+xually ab¥sed her throughout her childhood, from when she was about 11 until she turned 18, while lamenting the widespread s+xual ab¥se of women and the culture of protecting family reputations over victims in Nigeria.
Speaking during a discussion, she said, “My father mol£sted me all through my childhood,” adding that the ab¥se continued for seven years.
She claimed that s+xual assault was alarmingly common among women she knew, including people who worked for her, with perpetrators ranging from fathers and brothers to pastors and neighbours.
“There is an epidemic that is going on in our country,” she said.
Recounting another incident, Ms Jorji revealed that a female friend was allegedly raped in Nigeria about three months ago. She said she spent approximately ₦1 million to get the police to begin investigating the case, but it remained unresolved after the suspect fled.
She further condemned the tendency of families to shield alleged perpetrators to preserve their public image, revealing that her own family prioritised protecting her father over addressing the ab¥se.
“Protect my father, protect the image of the family,” she recalled, describing how the obsession with maintaining appearances allows s+xual predators to continue harming victims.
According to her, families often worry about what people will say rather than seeking justice, even when those whose opinions they fear may not know what is happening.
“The truth is that is the reason why a lot of these predators exist,” she said, blaming the continued protection of family reputations for enabling ab¥se.
Ms Jorji also challenged the belief that biological ties should determine who qualifies as family, stressing that people have the right to distance themselves from relatives who fail to protect them.
“Family is not about blood. Family is the people who want the best for you and you can create family,” she stated.
“Just because you’re born into a family does not mean that’s where you’re supposed to stay,” she concluded.
