"First drafts aren't meant to be perfect!" the writer tells themselves while they secretly hope it'll be solid genius, get them a 6-figure book deal, and they can stop sobbing over the alphabet and finally take a nap.

And yet the pressure is on for me to get these initial scenes just how I want them. Because this is where my planned series of 7 books will start - right here, with these characters. The style, the atmosphere, speech, descriptions, thoughts - this is the basis of it all. 😬

I never used to think so much about the process of writing while I did it - I just got on with it. While I believe it's helping me to improve, there's something to be said for 'just getting on with it' rather than choking off your creative flow in the first draft by over-editing.

So my debut book is planned and it's time to sit down and write. And all I can think of is how good it's going to have to be, and there's an audience to impress. It's paralyzing! Writers, how do you get those first few words out? #WritingCommunity #amwriting

So I've designed the layout of my MC's home and the important things in it so that I can picture it all. Which . . . is a heckuva lot easier than writing the first sentence of this story! LOL I have it outlined and everything. Where's my courage?

Thinking further about this, for me it's requiring a return to some decision-making about my MC's surroundings and personality, so that I feel I know him better and can see in my mind where he is and what it looks like there.

@KeiylasWords I work for a large print book company in the UK, and the government has been starving our main market of funds - the libraries. But our audio books are kind of helping us stay afloat. So, personal feelings aside, thank God for audio books 😅
