@janejupitersf Someone seems to have entirely missed concepts related to consent and desire. Sorta like having strong opinions on diet without considering existence of appetite / cravings / flavor.

@gallantgoblin Saw this Planetar in your Nolzur's video and had to grab one. What do you think?

@BeingBla What's he mean? Too stressed to be amiable company, afraid he'll display a foul mood? Too stressed for any social contact without risk of a panic attack? Too stressed to get it up? He could well be honest about the stress, but wrongheaded about why it excludes hang'n out . . .

@michiganman40 @LeeChatfield If someone cheats you, so you take him to court but you lose, is the next step hire thugs to steal his car and sell it to chop shoppers? What he's doing here is correct. The laws don't allow him to disregard a certified vote, and Trump lost in court. The answer isn't lawlessness.

@sheltondesigner I think it's kind of like pre-scientific herbalism. Yeah, sometimes you stumble on something helpful and pass it down as lore, but it's not a very reliable or efficient system.

@XRabbiitt @laughchem I've never seen one I considered sound. I'm not even sure about valid. There is often an error which in some way fails to distinguish the properties of conceptual versus empirical objects, for instance.

@laughchem @XRabbiitt None of physics really works if you add in an omnipotent anything. Either God acts by physics-breaking mechanisms, or without mechanism, which also breaks physics.

@laughchem @XRabbiitt We're still arguing about it because one party to the conversation will never admit the task's impossibility, nor will they ever succeed because reaching their insisted upon conclusion is, from our human perspective, impossible.

@laughchem @XRabbiitt It's hard to make s common sense generalization about things beginning to exist if it only happened once and no one saw it. Ever since thing, things only recombine in ways that we decided call for a different name.

@laughchem @XRabbiitt I'd say there is a deeper definitional problem there. When have you ever seen something "begin to exist"? Before a chair existed, there was lumber. Before the lumber, trees, minerals and CO2, elements, hadrons, quark gluon plasma . . . things only began to exist once if ever.

In most cases, "do your own research" is about as helpful a piece of advice as "do your own family's dental work" or "do your own electrical wiring". Doing research is a skill you don't get for free just by being smart.

@JoshHeter @nomnom38602683 @laughchem Yeah, as a blanket statement it isn't useful. It's better to say that arguments connect evidence to conclusions. "Based on evidence Y, I argue that X must be concluded" . . .

@XRabbiitt @laughchem Arguments can show that a premise implies a conclusion. But an argument needs to start with a premise, and if you're arguing for the literal existence of a real entity, not just a conceptual one, that premise better be based on evidence.

I propose calling a commonly held false memory "The Berenstain Effect". That would free up the name "Mandela effect" for when American education and media on the whole don't mention sh*t about majority non-white countries, so Americans have no clue if their founders are dead.

@sheltondesigner @Arnold_Kuijk It's really hard to know how many are Trump acolytes and how many are sleepwalking "conservatives" who still haven't realized how much of a departure he represents because they never understood conservatism. Once he's really split from the GOP we'll see how many go each way.

@DeighanRose Its amazing that we have a population so allergic to nuance that "communism=bad" and "government effort to promote the general good of the people = communism" has led to a suggestion like yours triggering a knee jerk fear reaction among a large chunk of our populace.
