Welcome to“Introverted But Willing To Discuss Drones,” my new playlist series. A few times per year, I, and occasionally some of my friends and peers, will curate an ambient leaning playlist to share with you all. Stream it here: open.spotify.com/playlist/1cYYt…
I've only just now listened to this for the first time, but immediately can tell it's going to be in heavy rotation, and one of my favorite releases of the year. Nayar's albums have always been wonderful, but this one is *extraordinary.*
"Heaven Come Crashing" (feat. maria bc) overwhelms with deep & intense sensory details. Will Hart's music video injects the imagery. Take a look! youtube.com/watch?v=N9mZCV…
This just arrived, and it's a MONSTER - always been an oft-revisited fave since its '82 unleashing, but the LP reissue sounds insanely great. I'll be reviewing it soon on my blog but in the meantime, trust me- if you're into Yen/Alfa electronics from the early 80s, you NEED this.
At wrwtfww.com Reissue of Haruomi Hosono-produced Interior self-titled debut, originally released in 1982. A rare breed of feel-good ambient music blending instrumental synth-pop, soft electronic minimalism, and cozy sound design in the most heartwarming ways.
Excellent overview of Eno's ambient approach in this 2017 (oops, 02017, I mean) essay, reposted today by @longnow
Brian Eno's works in generative art & ambient music "encourage the listener to live and to be present in the moment, the 'now,' but to feel that moment expanding forward and backward through time, literally to experience the 'Long Now.'" longnow.org/ideas/02017/11…
(The [...] denotes removal a description of Fremer as "the dean of audiophile writing". This was edited for length, but also accuracy.)
"Michael Fremer[...]slammed Esposito for irresponsibly spreading rumors & said his own unnamed source told him the record store owner was wrong. “Will speculative click bait YouTube videos claiming otherwise be taken down after reading this?” he tweeted." washingtonpost.com/music/2022/08/…

A sad and fond goodbye to Klaus Schulze.
Klaus Schulze, German electronic music pioneer, dies aged 74 theguardian.com/music/2022/apr…
"Ambient Music must be able to accommodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting." (2/2)
"Streaming platforms & meditation apps frame ambient as background music [...] Instead of embracing [its] potential- its capacity to soften barriers & loosen ideas of sound, politics, temporality & space- the music has become instrumentalized, diminished into sound-as-backdrop"
In recent years, ambient music has become an escapist salve for coping with mass death, political instability and climate anxiety. But this isn’t music that dulls the senses. It demands that we relinquish control and listen differently, our critic writes. nyti.ms/3ObhM0v
Curious that the author quotes Lawrence English ("to ignore music is not to listen to it”) but seems to go out of her way not to mention Eno in the piece, especially his classic statement from Music for Airports' liner notes: (1/2)
(“Sonic Youth? Strategy?”)
.@thesonicyouth are showing how a defunct group can still expand their footprint, even when the prospect of a proper reunion seems evermore remote p4k.in/rjJzTHy
Significantly annoying webpage where mere scrolling on a MacBook Pro just leads to boring graphics fuckery. Not sure what Apple's thinking, here. apple.com/mac-studio/
I probably played this one on my college radio show a dozen or three times. I still listen to this album every couple months. My band, Shep's Faithful Head, considered our cover of Wobble's "Seaside Special" a highlight of our set, as did our half-dozen or so fans.
Robert Fripp: Silent Night - Originally released as a flexi-disc with the Chicago based Praxis Magazine, Vol. 1, No. 3 December, 1979 youtube.com/watch?v=UFAENQ…
The inevitability of the year-end best-of list. anythingbutmp3.com/?p=6865
