At its meeting in Lusaka, Zambia, ending today, the APHLIS Network called for enhanced and formalized collaboration with the African Union Commission to assist AU Member States to reduce postharvest losses as a means to enhance food and nutrition security.
APHLIS Network members participated in an exercise to assess losses of sweet potato, cassava, maize and groundnut in farmers' fields in Zambia.
Mr Green Mbozi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Zambia, opened the APHLIS Network meeting on 20 June, citing APHLIS as critical for addressing issues of postharvest losses, malnutrition and the rise of food imports in Africa.
The APHLIS Network experts meeting opened today in Lusaka. Postharvest loss experts from 22 African countries are here to share information and agree on the future of the Network.
