1/7 It was a massive strategic mistake by russia and Trump to make Mike Johnson cut Ukraine aid already one year before elections. Quick take by @joni_askola
2/7 By taking this action, the US forfeited its leverage over Ukraine. While Ukraine now views US aid as a valuable bonus rather than a dependency, its reliance on it will diminish even further in 2025. Consequently, Trump's potential leverage over Ukraine will be diminished.
3/7 For decades, the US has served as Europe's protector. However, as isolationist traitors and useful idiots have led to a power vacuum in Europe, Macron is poised to seize this opportunity. This will have huge implications for Europe and the US.
4/7 With such behavior, the US will struggle to garner support from its allies on china, a significant strategic misstep. china poses the most substantial threat to the Western democratic world, and it is crucial for the West to present a united front in confronting it.
5/7 All of this prompts us to question why Trump and Johnson engage in this behavior. It is clearly not in the best interest of the US to jeopardize its alliances, reputation, and influence. Yet, their actions consistently align with the interests of russia and china.
6/7 Many of us may have a strong suspicion. If there's one area where russia excels, it's in intelligence, hybrid operations, and disinformation campaigns. The infiltration of the Republican party could arguably be russia's most significant success to date.
7/7 We shouldn't count on swift US assistance, as Johnson is adept at playing political games and projecting support for Ukraine, while in reality, his actions favor russia. Nonetheless, let's remain hopeful that mounting pressure will compel a decisive vote to take place.
@ArturRehi Why hasn’t there already been a discharge petition?
@ArturRehi Trump and Johnson have done one thing well and that is that Europe will stand on its own two feet with defense and that we will no longer be dependent on America and that will be a shot in the foot for America because defense expenditure also remains much more in Europe.
@ArturRehi We've known forever that Putin owns Trump. He demonstrated that time and again in the White House and beyond. Xi is not far behind--look at all the Chinese agents at Mar-a-Lago, Ivanka's Chinese patents, etc.
@ArturRehi The only way to break the log-jam is with #DischargePetition9 so #HR1016 can go to the floor for a vote. All the other petitions, bills, lend-lease schemes, etc., are designed for delay past November 5, 2024.
@ArturRehi All correct if also totally dispiriting.
@ArturRehi A Trump presidency is good for putin but bad for Xi as Trump will be more aggressive on trade w/ China than Biden. ru has captured Republican party but could have a net negative impact on "no limits ally"
@ArturRehi @unionwill Say it bluntly. @SpeakerJohnson is working for #Russia.
@ArturRehi To anyone paying attention, Johnson never projects support for Ukraine. He simply claims that a vote will be forthcoming, even though on some unsuitable alternative, then reneges after a several weeks
