EU parliament just voted to limit truck emissions further: -40% by 2030 -65% by 2035 -90% by 2040 I personally think electric tricks will outcompete diesel trucks before 2030 anyway, but this is another clear signal. Congratulations @BasEickhout euractiv.com/section/freigh…
@AukeHoekstra @BasEickhout The easiest way to do it will be to ensure comprehensive rail networks and marshalling yards are available to take the freight instead of trucks. Even a steam locomotive is more carbon efficient than trucking everything
@AukeHoekstra @JMGlachant @BasEickhout Freudian slip there. "Electric tricks" indeed. Because it is laughable to think that electric motors are the solution for longer distance haulage. That's not to say those targets aren't achievable. But not with electric trucks for long haul freight.
@AukeHoekstra @BasEickhout It has to be welcomed, but more so than cars, infrastructure will be the biggie here. Needs to a huge increase in chargers that trucks (and e-vans) can actually use.
@AukeHoekstra @BasEickhout I agree that probably electric tracks will be better than diesel in 2030. But I do not agree to make this law. It increases costs.
@AukeHoekstra @BasEickhout there's no charging infrastructures for electric trucks!
@AukeHoekstra @BasEickhout Trucks and public transport should be the primary focus IMO. These will have the most economic benefit as well
