I cannot wrap my head around these numbers any longer. 2.4 million viewers for the WNBA Draft on Monday on ESPN (first time over 1 million) NBA Draft did 3.7 million in 2023 on ABC/ESPN MLB Draft was 744,000 on ESPN/MLB Net in 2023 NHL Draft was 681,000 on ESPN last year
@AustinKarp The number there I can't believe is 3.7 million watched the NBA draft? The worst league mentioned here.
@AustinKarp @NicoleAuerbach My 8 y.o. son watched it with me! This is the women’s basketball fandom climate of my teenage dreams.
@AustinKarp @NicoleAuerbach The only reason, and I mean the ONLY reason I watched the Women’s NCAA playoffs was Caitlin Clark. I had never watched women’s basketball of any kind before that. I turned on the draft to see her picked #1 and that was all. Caitlin moved the needle so much -good luck next year!
@AustinKarp @brianstelter Either a turning point or it’s just the Caitlin Clark. Will be interesting to see numbers for 2025 ncaawbb final four games and 2025 wnba draft.
@AustinKarp All to see the first pick we all knew was coming a mile away.
@AustinKarp Called a wholesome American girl Rarity these days
@AustinKarp @SBJ Clark-mania and hype. It'll take a few months to burn off, number go back down to the actual size of the fan base.
@AustinKarp And people still watched knowing full well that Clark was going #1, (zero surprise or drama). That means people were still interested in seeing where the other players got drafted. Thats great for the WNBA.
