I remember when targeting your political opponents was just something the bad guys did. Listen, I completely understand BEING a conservative and disliking Democrat politicians. But fabricating lies, feeding them to your base, and then weaponizing government agents and potentially even citizens with your rhetoric is clearly crossing a line that America has no business crossing. If any other president did that, there would be riots. It's so strange that the goalposts are moved so far from decency when it comes to Trump. The conservatives I grew up with would think this is blatant racism and be appalled by it. I had a professor in seminary that required each student to visit a place of worship of any other major world religion in order to pass his class. Not to change your beliefs, but to experience first-hand what other belief systems are like. So I visited a mosque. I am not and never will be Muslim, but they were unbelievably kind and gracious to us. The women of the mosque ran home and grabbed ingredients and cooking utensils and made us a fresh meal with customary foods I'd never tried before. The men were so excited that we joined them and praised us for being curious. Having grown up in a missionary family with aunts and uncles who were pastors in different cultures and constantly in contact with people of different religions, it was instilled in me early on that people who aren't like you are still people. There is quite literally no excuse for targeting an entire people group, American citizens no less, simply because of where they come from and who they worship. It's un-American, and it's also un-Christian. It's crazy to me that this is somehow a divisive opinion to have in America right now.
