I started a farm last year. We grow tomato, scotch bonnet, bell peppers, and cucumbers (in off cycle). We anticipated increase in price of inputs in 2024 and we decided to buy what we would need for 2024 in September last year. These inputs include seedlings, pesticides, 1/6

herbicides etc. I am not the farming expert, my partner is, so I don't know all the items. My focus is on the seedlings. We started operations this year and on the launch day, I looked at the tomato seedlings and I noticed they were all imported. I was shocked. I spoke 2/6
@Ayo_Akinloye I run a pepper and tomatoe farm in Ogun west also. We stopped productions even before this moment . Laborers are from Benin and they stopped coming as the economy bites harder. We just have to shut it all and moved . Farmers are having it hard and food price wont come down..
@Ayo_Akinloye It is a disgrace to be importing tomato seedlings. If stuff like this is why food is expensive, then it is self-inflicted. Apart from FG sources, all seedlings can be made at home following free manuals from FAO on the internet. This import mentality is a big handicap in Naija
@Ayo_Akinloye Maybe a bit off topic, but why aren't you hiring man power from Nigeria so you can still pay them in Naira and maybe reduce the overall cost of produce?
@Ayo_Akinloye God bless you for this simple way you explained this thing to the people and I know some block heads will still want to argue.
