The academy has failed to understand that you can't theorize your way to reduce health inequities. It doesn't matter how many awards you earn or research papers your read & produce. If you don't connect with folx doing the work in the community, all the academia work is futile.
@Ayomideolife To create tangible lasting results, integrating your work into the community is essential. If you just want to look like you care (while using #DEI to self-promote your career), then you don’t ever need to leave your ivory tower or truly care about the community. It’s a choice.
@Ayomideolife @nasw Totally agree! The profession has made being published more important than actually doing the work. I believe research is important but not more or less important than working in the trenches. They are both important and should be valued!

@Ayomideolife @ashleyruba Research needs funding, especially for technology transfer. Researchers barely get enough funding for their studies.
