14,500 hectares of farmland were lost to development between 2010-2022 in England. farminguk.com/news/thousands…
@NoFarmsNoFoods I support farmers...but the land was "lost"? Was it taken away from them or did they choose to sell?
@AztahoeMichelle @NoFarmsNoFoods Much of the land certainly in our area of East Kent is tenanted. @stjohnscam for example building on several sites in Thanet ( 3000 houses) and the Duchy of Cornwall building on land around Faversham. Many other tenants given notice . kentonline.co.uk/faversham/news…
@AztahoeMichelle @NoFarmsNoFoods Most of the land we are losing is tenanted land owned by Peterborough Diocese or by Merchant Ventures
@AztahoeMichelle @NoFarmsNoFoods Whatever the reason, this is a land that used to feed us. It does not do so now. This is a great loss
@AztahoeMichelle @NoFarmsNoFoods Tenants don't get much say when a big and greedy institutional landlord like the Church Commisioners or a university college decide to sell from underneath them.
