It has been an excellent year for music. Here’s my top 16*, in no particular order of precedence. *too many to whittle down to a top 10, and if 16 is arbitrary, so is 10
.@BillyStrings - “Me / And / Dad” - jawdroppingly skilled bluegrass playing, which is like guitar shredding but for people who don’t need to hide behind sustain.
.@earljacob & Pleasure Trap - “Dobre Połączenie”. Great to see this absolute gent expanding his songwriting.
The Weather Station - “How Is It That I Should Look At The Stars”. Imagine writing a magnificent album and then realising that the stuff you left off it is every bit as good.
Caitlin Rose - “Cazimi”. The missing link between country and powerpop. Like Patsy Cline fronting Spoon.
Speaking of which, here’s @spoontheband with “Lucifer on the sofa. Riff of the year goes to “The Hardest Cut”. I’m just not sure which riff.
