The BE have provided comprehensive data on #biodiversity and #ecosystem functions on 300 plots for many years. But what about beyond these plots? That's what the same-named project BEyond by @hanna123987 and @Hoelzel_Lab from @WWU_Münster aims to predict.
Another great BE-paper published in @naturesustainab by @margot_neyret and @PeteEcology that investigates how land in rural areas in Germany could be best used so that multiple stakeholder groups get as many benefits as possible, and equity. twitter.com/PeteEcology/st…
Have you ever thought how silicon and calcium in #grassland soils affect #plant community composition and what role land use plays in this? The BEsic project from @joana_bergmann and Jörg Schaller from @zalf_leibniz gets to the bottom of exactly this question.
How does the surrounding #biodiversity influence local diversity as well as multiple #ecosystem services? This, as well as the influence of land-use intensification, is what the BE-project MultiBEF by Gaëtane le Provost of the @INRAE_Intl @geobiodiversity is investigating.

Two open #PhD positions on #wildlife #ecology and #conservation in the South American #Chaco and #Chiquitania. Joins us @BiogeoBerlin @HumboldtUni in Berlin, Germany to understand how land use change impacts on biodiversity! #Job Please RT and distribute widely!

Last PhD paper finally out! A few years back, we measured #invertebrate #herbivory on some 160000 leaves. In this @ESAMonographs paper, we show how #landuse changes herbivory rates and how this relates to changes in #plant and #insect communities🌿🪲
Where does the #nitrogen go @BExplo_research? #BE_BIOMON aims to improve our mechanistic understanding of long- and short-term N turnover in soils & retention in the light of biodiversity & land use intensity @COMI_HMGU +@KITKarlsruhe +@tumsoil @GeoSchweizer
Social-ecological research projects have been an important part of BE for some time and are also becoming more prominent. One of them is SoCuLa by Marion Mehring and @Soferl90 from @isoewikom, which investigates socio-cultural dynamics of German cultural landscapes. @PeteEcology
The next project we want to present stays with #microorganisms. SpaceMic by Steph Juburg from the @UFZ_de explores the question of how #soil microbial communities assemble on a small scale and what role the sampling design plays in this context.
The first project from the 7th phase we want to introduce to you is MetGrass. It investigates the influence of #grassland land-use de-intensification and management events on the #microbiome of the #methane cycle. @uni_greifswald @BioUHoh and @zalf_leibniz @Kolb2018
On March 1, the new and 7th phase of the Biodiversity Exploratories started and with it 41 new, exciting research projects. We do not want to keep these from you and therefore will present all projects individually in the next few weeks. @dfg_public
If you are a quantitative ecologist, you should definitely apply for this #postdoc position with this great team! Application deadline is 01/04/2023! Please RT! #Jobs twitter.com/PeteEcology/st…
Interesting talks, stimulating discussions, excellent posters, sunny weather that joined us on the walk to the castle and entertaining evenings. All this made the #BE2023 an enjoyable event. We thank everyone who participated and looking forward to next year. STD 20-23.02.24 🥳
Have you already chosen your favorites of all posters, talks, and photos of our annual assembly? Visit the BEO Info Board or EventMobi to vote – the winners will be announced on Friday and will receive some great prices! #BE2023
The first day of #BE2023 is soon coming to an end. We had lively discussions about infrastructure, plants, forest& deadwood – and we a great keynote presentation by Nathaly Guerrero Ramirez. A good start and we are looking forward to many interesting talks tomorrow!
The most important preparations for the #BE2023 Assembly have been made. Now only our explorers are missing! We are looking forward to finally seeing you again in-persona tomorrow noon at the @hkkhotel.

Our paper in #BiologyLetters is officially published! We argue that carry out experiments quantifying the effects on the main drivers of decline is next step for successful insect conservation | @arthropods @BExplo_research royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…
Our 20th Assembly will be starting soon! Explorers, please remember to view all progress report videos and posters before the start of the assembly to allow more time for Q&A and lively discussions during the event. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow in Wernigerode! #BE2023

Still time to apply: #PhD position on #forest #management effects on #freshwater #foodwebs in #treeholes. Position is part of @BExplo_research, @tietjenlab, @FU_Berlin & team of collaborators. Applications are due by 6 March 2023. bcp.fu-berlin.de/en/biologie/ar…
Congratulations to @ac_moeller on her first published paper! This BE paper is definitely worth reading, especially if you are interested in the role that intra-individual variation can play in #plant adaption to #climate change. twitter.com/ac_moeller/sta…
In January, the Local Management Teams start the annual land use survey with landowners of the grassland plots who patiently answer questions about grazing, fertilization and mowing. Important data for the land use index LUI, that many explorers need for their analyses! #landuse
Are you interested in #litter decomposition by #fungi? Then you should definitely have a look at this BE-publication here. twitter.com/GuerreiroMarco…
Our 20th BE-Assembly is coming closer and after two years of online Assemblies we will finally meet again in person in Wernigerode at the @hkkhotel. To all Explorers: please register by Friday 3.2.23 at latest if you want to come. Further infos have been sent via email! #BE2023
We have recently advertised some open positions here. An overview of all #job offers (scientific, non-scientific positions and #PhD) within the Exploratories can be found on our website: biodiversity-exploratories.de/en/jobs/

Come work with us! We have a #PhD position opening at @tietjenlab @FU_Berlin & @BExplo_research on the #forest management effects on #foodweb structure and #functioning of #multitrophic #freshwater #communities. Apply to [email protected]
A bit more than 2 weeks left to apply for a PhD-position we´re offering to investigate forest management impacts on forest microclimate obp.uni-goettingen.de/en-US/Stellen/…. Great opportunity for collaborative research @BExplo_research and @uniGoettingen. E-mail or DM me for further info.
Check out this new synthesis publication by @margot_neyret et al. Highly recommended! twitter.com/PeteEcology/st…
In April, we´ll kick-off a DFG-funded project, investigating the impacts of forest management on the spatiotemporal variability of forest microclimate, and offer a PhD position for 3 years at the Dept. of Silviculture and Forest Ecology, @uniGoettingen 👉obp.uni-goettingen.de/en-US/Stellen/…

HIRING: We seek motivated PhD candidates for a recently funded project with @sebastiantmeyer in the @BExplo_research. The project will develop insect monitoring methods combining camera trapping and artificial intelligence algorithms. RTs are appreciated www3.ls.tum.de/toek/stellenau…
What are the effects of #forest management on saproxylic #beetles i.e., #deadwood- dependent species? This study used an eight-year dataset and showed that the main drivers are differences in #tree species composition and canopy cover. Read more here: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
