Jealous of anyone who gets to sleep with their windows open at night. Those of us on Ann Arbor’s Old West Side don’t get to because of endless train horns, especially on the nights when a certain conductor is working who clearly hates us and loves to throw in a few extras. Most nights, multiple trains pass just half a block from me, each blowing their horns about 20 times within earshot. Even more on those special nights previously mentioned. Why you ask? Apparently some of my neighbors love it and have, for years, fought efforts to create a quiet zone. Those neighbors, I’m convinced, are certifiably insane. Love, One extremely annoyed Ann Arborite
@gayguycandleco I’m a mile away, so my windows are open and it’s STILL too loud — especially THOSE nights. I can’t imagine being right there. I thought they HAD to signal. If it’s a choice, time for new voices!!!!
@Basdaughter It’s insane. A quiet zone would require improvements at crossings, which can be costly, but I’d be curious what the effect would be on property values, and the resulting property tax revenue, near the track if the constant sound was eliminated.
