Stopped by La Reina this morning, where students, alumnae and supporters protested the closing of the Thousand Oaks private, all-girls Catholic School.
La Reina families were told via email last week that the school would be closing at the end of the school year.
@BeccaWhitnall Protesting now after the decisions made is like crying over spilt milk. Besides. Best education for kids comes from their. Very own parents. Schools are nothing more than gloried day care centers. Close them all. Its not like kids are learning useful things anyways.
@BeccaWhitnall Declining enrollment is a statewide issue & privates are not immune. All schools have to rebrand/market themselves extensively to stay competitive. La Reina has a strong tradition, is salvageable, but may require out of the box thinking. Across town, Carden may be a good partner
@BeccaWhitnall Unfortunately, unless the school gets more bodies in the seats, no fundraiser would save the school. It's always a numbers game.
@BeccaWhitnall Thank you for covering, Becca. That's my family below the Triangle St. sign. Keep digging, there's much more here than the incorrect excuse of struggling financials. #savelareina @savelareina
@BeccaWhitnall Two things happening before the closing will save the school: 1) a big donation received 2) a spike of enrollment. Otherwise there is no mean to keep it open
