This is going to blow some minds so bear with me… UK authors DO exist. And this is where it gets mental… our original English differs from US English! I’m going to go pass out

@BenGalley The weirdest thing is that I can read a book by an American author without being triggered every time they write 'color' or use double quotations for speach. It's a super power.
@BenGalley I write using US English since its more logical. I also use the OED -ize postfix
@BenGalley The US is the dominant (pop) culture though, so their standard becomes the world standard. I used to learn British English in high school but now write American English because it feels more “normal”
@BenGalley This bothered me when I was a teenager trying to read Lord of the Rings for the first time, but I grew out of it pretty quickly. Thank God.
@BenGalley I’m in the uk and I write with double quotes because I think they look better. But would I ever one star a book for using single quotes? Hell no.
@BenGalley in that case, enjoy continuing to write bad fanfiction, I will be all here for it 🫶
@BenGalley This is all just too much. I need a sit down and cup of tea.
@BenGalley See page 1 of my novella for a pure, unapologetic disclaimer (in short, this is ridiculous):
@BenGalley I went to a British secondary school and US university. My English teacher at uni used to mark down my papers because she said I used "too many unnecessary words" She said it was a British style of writing. 😐
@BenGalley WHAT!!! No way the UK actually exists, I thought it was all mythology like Greece of Egypt.
