Today we signed an Open Letter to demand an end to the Community-Industry Response Group (C-IRG), a unit of the RCMP that has hundreds of complaints of assault and misconduct filed against them.
They also became known as the "pipeline police," harassing, surveilling, and arresting Indigenous people defending their lands from BC pipelines. But they've expanded, ready to work on behalf of extractive industries such as oil, gas, and clearcut logging to get rid of protesters
In less than five years, there have been almost 500 complaints filed against the C-IRG. More than 100 of them report allegations of excessive force, illegal tactics, unprofessional behaviour, racism, discrimination, and charter violations.
We joined numerous community groups impacted by C-IRG as well as groups such as @Indigenous_ca @PBIcanada @DavidSuzukiFDN @pivotlegal @bccla @leadnowca @dogwoodbc @350Canada @WorldBeyondWar to demand an end to C-IRG violence @AbolishCirg #abolishCIRG
