NEW: D.C. Court of Appeals says in a new order it will take up the issue of whether former president Donald Trump's allegedly defamatory statements about E. Jean Carroll were made within the scope of his employment as president. Oral argument on Jan 10 before the en banc court.
2/ The D.C. appeals court said it would take up the matter on an expedited basis. @ejeancarroll had sued Trump for defamation, saying he damaged her reputation when he denied her accusation that he raped her in a department store dressing room, claiming she was "totally lying."
@BenWeiserNYT He’s made the same statements recently in Truth Social ….as an ordinary citizen
@BenWeiserNYT How is this a thing since he repeated the statement in public a couple weeks ago?
@BenWeiserNYT so he's going to get out of this, too? The law means nothing.
@BenWeiserNYT @SpiroAgnewGhost Someone explain to me why holding office should shield anyone from being accountable for raping someone decades ago? He was sued for defamation while in office, but it’s been years now.
@BenWeiserNYT @gtconway3d This all has to do with who will represent trump. If he was acting as president then the DOJ represents him and it sets an incredibly bad precedence. Imagine that this would become acceptable response of the American people. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
@BenWeiserNYT Trump and the Republican party have made it clear how they feel about the women in this country. We have been regulated to second class citizens.
@BenWeiserNYT @gtconway3d Errr.. He raped her #LockHimUp
