Hi. Against all odds, I have published an uplifting story: A new map shows where around the world humans are restoring nature. There are tons of neat examples, like this grassland in the midwest. It now has 180 kinds of birds. vox.com/down-to-earth/…
@BenjiSJones @AukeHoekstra After dismissing all seven pop-ups, I scrolled up and down the article and the only map I saw was of Illinois.
@BenjiSJones @stewartbrand Humans can neither destroy nor restore nature. Humans are IN nature. They ARE nature.
@BenjiSJones @dwallacewells Today’s restoration efforts are a little like a few monkeys hanging carefully tended terrariums from the branches of a blazing tree in the middle of a burning forest. Gotta love those monkeys who are doing that. But if we don’t address the big picture, we are all toast.
@BenjiSJones The idea is nice, but since there is no verification process there is so much garbage on there.
@BenjiSJones Look at Alaskan islands - Aleutian and others - where introduced foxes were removed. Led to explosive repopulation of native birds.
@BenjiSJones Loved this story. Nachusa was a great choice for it, too. Great work there by @Nature_IL. More great reads like this, please! 👌🏽
