@BillingMartin Some mixed messaging in this. ‘Slouching’ postures, over time, can contribute to other maladies like shoulder pain. Certainly shouldn’t shame people for their posture but still need to encourage effortful mobility and adequate strength for long term wellness.
@BillingMartin I wish people writing those terrible mandatory training modules on moving and handling were aware if this. Who are they?? Is anyone out there going to admit to writing one?
@BillingMartin Interesting. I like to mix it up. I lift weights with minimal lumbar flexion but don’t try to avoid it at all in normal activities (lifting and carrying for gardening, etc). I think that gives me exposure to different stressors (?)
@BillingMartin @Martin_Nekkolai Agree. I also think there needs to be more ackowledged that the whole spectacle isn't just about biomechanics. There's a strong implicit bias in saying someone has "bad posture" and it's from a place of misconceived superiority of a cultural ideal.
It looks like they conducted “back pain surveys or questionnaires” in the short term. I would wonder if posture and exercises to improve or maintain over decades of human life has been studied/CAN be studies. “How do you fair at 50,60,75 years of age”, etc? These are intriguing discussions, dogmas…
