Every so often the most toxic school/ head that I’ve ever worked in comes on my timeline and I genuinely feel a bit sick whenever I see this person. The potentially long lasting impact of working under a toxic headteacher should never be underestimated.

@mrallanmaths Staggered at the amount of ppl saying go zero tolerance. Relationships are important. Say ‘oh hi [name] how are you? Are you having a good day? It’s good to see you’ look up non-complementary behaviour. Don’t take it personally. Relationships I have; I’d say ‘you’re boring’!

@mrallanmaths @NooPuddles Adolescent brains do have the capacity to think about qualifications. However, at this developmental stage -fitting in to a peer group /seeking sensory stimulus is their focus &goal. This isn’t a character flaw but how our wonderful brains develop.

Some good books on this are Inventing Ourselves by Sarah-Jayne Blackmore, The invisible Classroom by Kirke Olson, Non-violent communication by Rosenberg, When the adults change, everything changes by Paul Dix (4)

@NooPuddles @mrallanmaths Additionally, staring sternly at this young person could be detrimental to their confidence. ‘Shame’ is a toxic feeling that is hard to unlearn. This students behaviour is attempting to meet a need. I would suggest staying curious and not responding defensively. (2)
