Last month, we met with Dr. Danagoulian, assistant prof of health economics at Wayne State’s Econ Deptartment. Dr. Danagoulian gave insight on impacts of federal assistance programs, limitations of SNAP, and the benefits of collaboration with local food program initiatives.

It was a pleasure meeting with Rachelle Bonelli, Vice President of Programs at Gleaners Food Bank. We learned a lot about the problems of Detroit’s food system, the stigma of local and federal assistance programs, and the need to make food more accessible #BlessingBoxDetroit

1 in 5 people in Wayne County currently face food insecurity. With the food gap only getting bigger, there is a substantial need for food accessibility. The Blessing Box concept tries to provide this accessibility to those in need. #blessingboxdetroit

Bring what you can, take what you need! Our goal is to make food and hygiene products accessible to those in need, locally and stigma-free with the help of "Blessing Boxes"; mini food pantries that people can donate to and those in need can take from themselves.
