One of the hardest things to digest is hearing Alameda County continually say they “want out of the sports business”. That’s code for: “this isn’t easy, and we only like easy”. It comes with the territory.
Sounds like the environmental impact report (which we expected out in the coming days) and potential “mitigations” (necessary fixes to the site) will not be “visible” in the immediate future, per Dave Kaval.
The A’s & Oakland have some “open items” that remain being worked on, per Kaval. Parties meeting on a “weekly basis”.
Despite all of the frustrating “stuck in the mud” moments we’ve seen in this meeting - I still believe they can vote yes on a non-binding agreement today. Which is all that needs to happen, to this point.
“I think it’s fair to say the A’s are paying for everything.” Mayor Libby Schaaf youtu.be/WmR8U3d7bG4
“This is not the Raiders deal. We’ve all learned from our mistakes of the past. This is financially responsible” Mayor Schaaf on Howard Terminal youtu.be/WmR8U3d7bG4
In this meeting: Kaval & Schaaf have brought among their best points, facts, and reasonings I’ve seen in all these years. It must be noted.
Enter Molly Maybrun: Oakland’s expert on Real Estate & Major Projects. There’s no question she doesn’t have a grasp on.
The level of detail in some of these questions… seem a little excessive for agreeing to a “non-binding” vote. They’re asking “binding-type” final-answer questions now. youtu.be/WmR8U3d7bG4
Still hopeful we get to an actual vote tonight. Meeting started at 12N, topic was brought up around 1:30p… apparently things have to wrap up by 6pm. Getting down to crunch time here: youtu.be/WmR8U3d7bG4
Don’t really want to hear local government complain that Howard Terminal is taking up “too much of their time”. We witnessed them entertain an hour alone of conspiracy theorists (during the meeting) today with “public comments” on a separate topic.
@BrodieNBCS "Too much of their time" and I swear to gods it looks like most haven't looked at any of the material before this very moment.
@BrodieNBCS I LOVE the A’s, would be really bummed to see them leave. But, if my project, my money, I’d drop my plans to build/develop property in Oakland/Alameda County. No “actual” progress made. These meetings are a joke. Not enough motivated leaders to get it done here.
@BrodieNBCS I heard they would continue the subject as needed after the 6pm issue is complete.
