Something I keep seeing is ‘if you’re lucky enough to go viral, just use the exposure to generate income some other way’. Musicians should be able to generate income via their music. Do you want good music or do you want what you paid for?

It takes more than 800,000 streams per month to make the equivalent of a $15/hour job, and the vast majority of music artists on platforms like Spotify never get to that number. I introduced the Living Wage for Musicians Act to fight for the fair pay that musicians deserve.

& that’s wonderful if true and i would NEVER deem to tell another artist how they should do things, but i will howl and row against the tide of men that convince artists that they can’t produce their own music. it’s outrageous and untrue. it is a world of discovery and wonder 🧵
