My condo association is charging $36,000 per unit for a special assessment. This is why I'll never buy in an HOA again.
@BryceWGarcia Just hire an attorney, you won't have to pay that. It's easy actually. I'd wager you'd be out $1.5k max and most likely get the money back. HOAs do help keep someone from parking 8 rusted cars on their front lawn and depreciating your property.
@BryceWGarcia What’s it for this time? I had a condo in Florida that was built in the 90s high rise. In the dead of night the board decided vote to replace the elevators which were always going down because of seasonal guests holding the doors open. Cost us all $19,000 each!
@BryceWGarcia It’s no better if you own your own home and talking about siding and a roof.
@BryceWGarcia I own a home that isn't in an HOA. In the last 10 years I paid $10k to have it painted, $18k for a new roof and new skylights and $60k to completely redo the wrap around deck in composite and $8k for new sliders. Homes are expensive to maintain if you are in an HOA or not.
